instruments among which we can highlight the txirula, the txistu and the tamboril and the accordion.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">Mutxiko<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">Elkartea<\/span> count on a <span class=\"hps\">group<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">of<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">versatile<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">musicians<\/span><span class=\"hps\">.<\/span> They are the perfect complement during dance performances, as they perform additional pi<span class=\"hps\">eces of music<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">in order to offer<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">opportunity to hear<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">other traditional<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">melodies and<\/span> music <span class=\"hps\">instruments such as\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hps\">the alboka<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">or<\/span> the <span class=\"hps\">txalaparta<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">These are the most representative Basque music instruments:<br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>THE <em>TXIRULA<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\">\u00a0<span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">The<\/span><em> <span class=\"hps\">txirula<\/span><\/em> <span class=\"hps\">is the most significant traditional instrument<\/span><span class=\"hps\"> of<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the Basque province of Lapurdi<\/span>. <span class=\"hps\">It is a<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">straight<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">flute<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">with a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hps\">wood peak and belongs to the family of the<em>txistu<\/em>. <\/span><span class=\"hps\">It is usually made of\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">boxwood<\/span>. <span class=\"hps\">It has a<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">sharp sound<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">like<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">a piccolo<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mattin.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-172\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/mattin.jpg\" alt=\"mattin\" width=\"623\" height=\"395\" 623px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\"><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">The<\/span> <em><span class=\"hps\">txirula<\/span><\/em>, played <span class=\"hps\">along with other<\/span> Basque traditional instruments, can be part of a <em><span class=\"hps\">Charanga<\/span>.<\/em><\/span> Traditionally, in<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the Mutxikoak<\/span> and other dances from the province of Zuberoa<span class=\"hps\">,\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hps\">the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">txirula<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">has been accompanied by<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">other instruments such as<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">accordion,<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the clarinet,<\/span> the <span class=\"hps\">euphonium<\/span>, the violin and <span class=\"hps\">other percussion instruments<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/musikariak.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-173\" type=\"square\">\n<li><strong>THE\u00a0<em>TXISTU<\/em> and THE\u00a0<em>TAMBORIL<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\">The <em>txistu<\/em> is a flat flute with three holes. We can find two types: the<em> txistu<\/em> and the <em>silbote<\/em> (longer and with a deeper sound).<span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\"> The<\/span> use of the <em><span class=\"hps\">txistu<\/span> <\/em><span class=\"hps\">is<\/span> more common in the Basque provinces of\u00a0 <span class=\"hps\">Gipuzkoa<\/span>, Bizkaia <span class=\"hps\">and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">Araba<\/span><span class=\"hps\">.<\/span> It can be pl<span class=\"hps\">ayed<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">in different nuances\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hps\">to suit the needs of a<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">band, orchestra<\/span>, etc.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"left\">The best friend of the <em>txistu<\/em> is the <em>tamboril<\/em>, a <span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">small drum<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">that is hold with the left arm by means of a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hps\">twisted cord.<\/span><\/span><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\"> While<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the <em>txistu<\/em><\/span> <span class=\"hps\">is played with the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">left hand<\/span> the<em>tamboril<\/em> is\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">hammered<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">with the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hps\">right one. <\/span><\/span><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">A<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">band<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">of<\/span><em> <span class=\"hps\">txistularis<\/span><\/em> (txistu players) comprises a\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">minimum of 4<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">musicians<\/span>: <span class=\"hps\">1st txistu<\/span><span class=\"hps\">,<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">2nd<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">txistu<\/span>, <span class=\"hps\">silbote<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">kettledrum<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/musikariak2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-174\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/musikariak2.jpg\" alt=\"musikariak2\" width=\"617\" height=\"417\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/musikariak2.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/musikariak2-300x203.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 617px) 100vw, 617px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">Band<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">of<\/span> t<span class=\"hps\">xistularis<\/span> from Mutxiko <span class=\"hps\">Elkartea<\/span>. <span class=\"hps\">From left to right<\/span>,<br \/>\n<span class=\"hps\">three<\/span> <em><span class=\"hps\">txistus<\/span><\/em> <span class=\"hps\">with<\/span> <em>tamborils<\/em>, <span class=\"hps\">a<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">silbote<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and<\/span> a <span class=\"hps\">kettledrum<\/span>.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <strong>THE ACCORDION <\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div align=\"left\">\u00a0<span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">The accordion is<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">an instrument<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">that was introduced in<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the Basque Country\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hps\">in the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">late XIX<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">century, so<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">we can say that<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">its integration into the Basque<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">folklore<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">is relatively recent.<\/span> His arrival was a phenomenon, and he rapidly found its place among the traditional instruments. In some cases, it <span class=\"hps\">replaced some<\/span> instruments from that time <span class=\"hps atn\">(i.e. the <\/span><span class=\"hps\">trikitrixa<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">accordion<\/span>, <span class=\"hps\">diatonic)<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and in many cases was played together with other instruments.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span> <\/span><\/div>\n<p align=\"left\"><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">In our<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">case we use<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">chromatic<\/span> style <span class=\"hps\">accordions<\/span>, <span class=\"hps\">either<\/span> with <span class=\"hps\">piano<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">or with buttons.<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">In<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">some specific dances<\/span>, <span class=\"hps\">as is the case of Irradaka, the accordion is the only instrument that is played.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/akordeoiak.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\" wp-image-175 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/akordeoiak.jpg\" alt=\"akordeoiak\" width=\"299\" height=\"224\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/akordeoiak.jpg 400w, http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/akordeoiak-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 299px) 100vw, 299px\" \/><\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/image_preview.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-171\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/image_preview.jpg\" alt=\"image_preview\" width=\"322\" height=\"227\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/image_preview.jpg 400w, http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/image_preview-300x212.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 322px) 100vw, 322px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul type=\"square\">\n<li><strong>THE ALBOKA<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p align=\"left\">The <em>alboka<\/em> is a pastoral\u00a0origin instrument made from the horns of oxen and it produces a high pitched sound. It is not difficult to play, it is said, but the musician must always maintain a mouth full of air.<\/p>\n<p align=\"left\"><span id=\"result_box\"><span class=\"hps\">He is credited with<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">an Arab<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">origin<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">(his<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">name begins with<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">prefix<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">al-<\/span>) <span class=\"hps\">and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">is still played mainly in the province of\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"hps\">Bizkaia.<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">It is played<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">for dancing<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">fandango,<\/span> <span class=\"hps atn\">arin-<\/span>arin <span class=\"hps\">and parades<\/span>.\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">The<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">alboka<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">is often accompanied by<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">a<em> pandero<\/em>, w<\/span><span class=\"hps\">ich is a type<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">of<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">tambourine<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">being played<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">by moistening the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">middle finger<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and dragging it<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">into the leather<\/span>, to make it vibrate.<\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/alboka.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-177\" src=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/alboka.jpg\" alt=\"alboka\" width=\"625\" height=\"581\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/alboka.jpg 768w, http:\/\/www.mutxiko.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/alboka-300x279.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 625px) 100vw, 625px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>\u00a0THE TXALAPARTA<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The <em>txalaparta<\/em> is an instument made up of one or more thick wooden boards that is played by two people. The players, called <em>Txalapartariak<\/em>, use short wooden sticks about 20 inches long and an inch and a half in diameter to hit the boards following a set of rules for rythym. Music is made by having one or more performers produce differing rhythms, playing with wood knots and spots of the boards for different tones.<\/p>\n<p>Historically it is belived that the txalaparta was used as a means of communication between remote farms (baserris). There would have been a special rythym used to signal that cider was ready, or that a death had occurred, for example.
